Empowering Futures: Sadie and Elanna Win Roundup Scholarship

The Red Angus Junior Program is proud to announce that Sadie Knight, Harrogate, South Australia and Elanna Travers, Tamworth, New South Wales are the co-recipients that have been awarded the 2025 NH Foods Angus Youth Roundup Scholarship to be hosted in Tamworth in January 2025. We look forward to following both ladies experiences and takeaways from the experience.

Sadie Knight

Sadie Knight is a passionate 14-year-old student at Urrbrae Agricultural High School with a deep love for the Red Angus breed. Growing up with a commercial herd of Red Angus cattle, Sadie has recently established her own stud, “Highcroft Reds.” Her choice to focus on Red Angus stems from her appreciation for their docile nature, fertility attributes, carcass quality, and strong maternal characteristics.

Outside of her studies, Sadie dedicates her time to preparing her cattle for upcoming shows. Sadie believes that understanding various breeds enriches her knowledge and enhances her own cattle handling.

One of her most cherished experiences was assisting Jillangolo Livestock at the Royal Adelaide Show, where she learned valuable lessons about cattle presentation. Sadie enjoys spending time with younger children and hopes to inspire future generations by becoming a high school agricultural teacher after earning her Animal Science Degree and Teaching Degree.

Her commitment to the cattle industry has blossomed since joining Urrbrae Agricultural High School, where her love for showing cattle developed. Her recent participation in the SA Junior Heifer Expo marked a milestone, where she gained practical knowledge and won the Sub-Intermediate Junior Judging Encouragement Award.

Eager to expand her network within the industry, Sadie is excited about the NH Foods Angus Youth Roundup. She is determined to represent the Red Angus breed as a dedicated and enthusiastic participant, eager to learn from fellow young Angus enthusiasts and breeders.

Elanna Travers

Elanna Travers is a motivated 14-year-old with a passion for the agricultural industry, particularly in livestock management. Currently in grade 8, Elanna aspires to study agricultural science at university and pursue a career in agricultural business management.

Growing up on a farm, Elanna has gained hands-on experience in the industry by starting her own cattle studs and participating in youth groups related to shorthorn and Bos Indicus breeds. She has actively attended industry events and gained practical experience working with her father at AAM Investment Group. Recently, she expanded her involvement with the Red Angus breed by purchasing a heifer and embryos for future use, recognizing the breed’s advantages in harsh Australian environments due to its strong maternal, fertility, and eating quality traits.

Elanna has demonstrated her commitment to her agricultural education through her achievements in competitions. At the 2023 Shorthorn Youth Group Camp, she placed third in the herdsman competition and qualified for the final in junior judging. In 2024, she excelled in junior judging at the Bos Indicus Youth Round Up, scoring an impressive 94 out of 100, and received recognition in paraders and public speaking events.

Elanna is eager to continue her involvement in the agricultural community and looks forward to learning from industry leaders at events like the NH Foods Angus Youth Round Up, further enhancing her skills in cattle showing and management.
